Bhagsu waterfall cascading over rocks near Dharamkot

You don't have to climb to Triund for a nature fix. A short walk down from Dharamkot brings you to Bhagsu Waterfall and a string of quieter pools — perfect for a half-day, a picnic, or a cold swim.

Bhagsu Waterfall (Bhagsunag)

The best-known fall sits above Bhagsu village, an easy 30–45 minute downhill walk from Dharamkot. The path passes the Bhagsunag temple and a row of cafes before reaching the cascade, which tumbles over a rock face into pools at the base. There's even a cafe perched beside the falls for chai with a view.

It's popular, so it gets busy — go early morning or on a weekday for the calmest experience.

The quieter upper pools

Above the main waterfall, a steeper trail leads to smaller upper pools and cascades that most day-trippers never reach. Fewer people, cleaner water, and a more peaceful spot to sit. The climb is short but steep in places — decent shoes help.

Tip

Combine the walk with the famous Shiva Cafe above the falls — a long-running travellers' hangout with cushions, music and valley views. It's a classic Dharamkot–Bhagsu afternoon.

Galu and beyond

On the way up toward Triund, Galu Devi has small streams and shaded forest spots that run well after rain. They're not dramatic falls, but they make a nice short nature walk straight from the top of the village — see the sunrise & sunset points guide for more easy walks nearby.

Heads up

Rocks around waterfalls are slippery and currents strengthen after rain. Don't jump into pools without checking the depth, and avoid the falls during or right after heavy monsoon downpours.

Make a relaxed day of it with a cafe stop (best cafes in Dharamkot) and an evening sauna. More outdoors in the trekking & nature section or back to things to do in Dharamkot.

Frequently asked questions

How far is Bhagsu Waterfall from Dharamkot?

It's a short walk — roughly 30–45 minutes downhill toward Bhagsu (Bhagsunag), depending on your route through the village. You can easily do it as a half-day outing.

Can you swim at Bhagsu Waterfall?

Yes, in the pools at the base, though the water is cold and gets crowded in peak season. The smaller upper pools above the main fall are quieter and cleaner if you don't mind the extra climb.

When is the best time to see the waterfalls?

Just after the monsoon (September–October) the falls are full and the valley is green. Post-winter snowmelt also feeds them well. In peak summer the flow drops but it's the best time for a swim.
